Blog About Palestine Day

May 1, 2008 | 9:52 am

***UPDATE:*** A Facebook event for this initiative has been created. Please join the event and pass the message on to your friends (more info here).

***UPDATE #2:*** A list of possible topics to write about can be found (here and here).

Dear all,

May 15th of this year is the 60th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba –which marked the beginning of the modern age Palestinian plight and suffering. This date is remembered annually on local, regional, and global levels.

I am certain that many in the blogosphere will dedicate some posts to commemorate this tragic event. However, inspired by the success of the “Blog About Jordan Day” initiative, i would like to start a formal initiative to encourage everybody to dedicate one post on Thursday, May 15th, to talk about Palestine or the Palestinian Experience.

There are no restrictions on what you can write, or the language that you can use. Really, anything that talks about Palestine, or the Palestinians; in the past, present, or future; political, social, economical, or any other aspect is welcomed. The goal of this event will be to share thoughts, and raise awareness about the Palestinian situation. Hopefully, with everyone’s support, this will be such a spectacular event that it will catch the eye of the mainstream media (specially that the Palestinian situation is inadequately and incorrectly represented in most of the western media outlets).

Blog About Palestine Day

FAQ:

  • Do I have to be Palestinian / Arab to participate ?
No, everybody is welcomed to join in on this effort.
  • Does it have to represent the Palestinian point of view (or be a positive article) ?
No, you are free, and encouraged, to write whatever you want.
  • Does it have to be about the Nakba precisely ?
No, you can talk about the history of the Palestinian plight, current internal and external affairs, or outlooks for possible future resolutions to this conflict and how do you think can we achieve and maintain peace.
  • Does it have to be a political article ?
No, you are free to talk about any aspect of the Palestinian life inside and outside Palestine. You are free to talk about whatever you want.

I would appreciate it if you could help me spread the word about this event. For your convenience, i have created some simple counters and banners for this event. You can find their code below:

Thank you in advance for your help and support.

Mark you calendar for May 23-25 where we assert the Palestinian National rights. We will say it loud that we will never forget. Palestinians are the Key holders of peace. Join the thousands and strengthen the network of the thousands of activists. Express your opinion and let the many panelists know of where Palestine should go. Support our efforts to empower our community and assert the Palestinians right of return. Join the many Palestinian Americans and their supporters in Chicago commemorating the 60th year of the forced exile of the Palestinian people. Be pro active, ask questions to the Panelists and discuss the current event. We must empower ourselves and make a strong network for Justice, Peace and Freedom. Be pro active. Enough talks, actions are required.

The best idea ever! I think everyone who committed to writing should write about Israelis terrorism, Apartheid, massacres and ethnic cleansing that has been admitted to by the founders of this little country of terrorists. The new attacks on Arabs or Muslims (and believe me, Arab Christians are not considered Christians in the eyes of the blind Christian Zionist groups here in the US) have produced such “new” names as “Jihadist” against anyone who supports the Palestinian cause. Likewise, a new word that a friend introduced on Wordpress is NaZionist! This is what we should use against these thugs.

I hope you can also create a counter about Israeli terrorism and the number of civilians killed..

Nex Year in Jerusalem!

Best wishes!

Great idea! I am definitely in!

something I left on Loolt’s blog

Israel is actually holding a 3 day celebration in Jerusalem as well

This is from an event description on Facebook:

To celebrate 60 years of independence, israel is planning a large-scale birthday bash with events taking place in many different countries around the world. In Jerusalem, a 3-day conference, under the title “Facing Tomorrow” is planned from May 13 – 15, to which many world leaders and celebrities have been invited and plan to attend.

To let the world know and those gathered to celebrate israel see and hear us - on May 15 - 21,915 (365 days x 60 years) black balloons will launch over the skies of Jerusalem. We aim to turn the skies over israel’s celebrations black to let people know that there is another side of the story, a side of heartache, suffering and dispossession. At the same time, each balloon will carry a letter from a Palestinian child expressing his/her hope for the future.

——

So if you have any little sisters, brothers, kids, nieces, nephews, cousins please ask them to take the time out to write a letter, which you can post on the Event’s wall - in their name.

Assalamu ‘alaykum

I came across this post via the Facebook events page. I am one of the editors of Ijtema.net, a group blog set up to highlight the best of the Muslim blogosphere. I’d like to help promote this event, insha’Allah. I was thinking of posting a selection of the best, most moving entries on our site, on May 15th or 16th (as soon as we can harvest the links to read through them). Would you be able to help me coordinate this task? I am not sure who is in charge of the Facebook event, otherwise I was going to ask them to message all the members closer to the day, and ask them to forward us the links to their blog posts.

Anyway, please contact me to discuss the idea, asap.

Salaams

Republic, which has declared its own independence. Large parts of the country is occupied by Israel, and final status of Palestine is not settled. Palestine is recognized by about 100 nations, but not by most Western powers, nor the United Nations.Day of independence: November 15, 1988.CLIMATE AND GEOGRAPHY

Palestine is one of the smallest countries in the Middle East, and most of its territory remains under Israeli occupation and control. Important areas are also used by Jewish extremist settlers claiming that this land has been given to them by God.
Effectively, the Palestinians today control less than 1,000 km². Both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip is a mixture of fertile ground and desert, with little rain in many zones, and sufficient rain in other zones. Many areas rely upon water coming from the mountains.
The economy of the country is heavily depending on Israel’s, as many goods have to be exported to Israel, and as many Palestinians work in Israel. Economic conditions are hard, and worst in the Gaza Strip.
Palestine has a new and fresh democracy that is working on the surface (in terms of free elections) but which is dominated by heavy corruption and a ruthless police and intelligence. It is also the victim of the decisions of certain organizations like Hamas, and foreign governments like the US and the Israeli.

Mafish Falastin

On May 12, 2008 | 8:45 am

uma,

You can believe that there’s neverneverland or Oz and that won’t make it so.

Mafish Falastin.

There is ONLY Israel.

Get used to it.

And no, the Bible does NOT mention a place called “Palestine”. It does mention the land of Israel though- and mentions that it only belongs to the nation of Israel:

“And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. But to the sons of the concubines that Abraham had, he gave gifts and sent them away from his son while he yet lived, eastward, to the east country.” (Genesis 25:5-6)

Genesis 12:7 And the L-rd appeared unto Abram, and said: ‘Unto thy seed will I give this land’…

Genesis 26:4 and I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these lands…

Genesis 28:13 And, behold, the L-rd stood beside him, and said: ‘I am the L-rd, the G-d of Abraham thy father, and the G-d of Isaac. The land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

And so on and so on….
