***UPDATE #1:*** A Facebook event for this initiative has been created. Please join the event and pass the message on to your friends (more info here).

***UPDATE #2:*** A list of possible topics to write about can be found (here and here).

***UPDATE #3:*** A small list of bloggers who are participating in the event is published here.

***UPDATE #4:*** A sample harvest list of blog posts contributed to this event has been published here.

Dear all,

May 15th of this year is the 60th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba –which marked the beginning of the modern age Palestinian plight and suffering. This date is remembered annually on local, regional, and global levels.

I am certain that many in the blogosphere will dedicate some posts to commemorate this tragic event. However, inspired by the success of the “Blog About Jordan Day” initiative, i would like to start a formal initiative to encourage everybody to dedicate one post on Thursday, May 15th, to talk about Palestine or the Palestinian Experience.

There are no restrictions on what you can write, or the language that you can use. Really, anything that talks about Palestine, or the Palestinians; in the past, present, or future; political, social, economical, or any other aspect is welcomed. The goal of this event will be to share thoughts, and raise awareness about the Palestinian situation. Hopefully, with everyone’s support, this will be such a spectacular event that it will catch the eye of the mainstream media (specially that the Palestinian situation is inadequately and incorrectly represented in most of the western media outlets).

Blog About Palestine Day

FAQ:

  • Do I have to be Palestinian / Arab to participate ?
No, everybody is welcomed to join in on this effort.
  • Does it have to represent the Palestinian point of view (or be a positive article) ?
No, you are free, and encouraged, to write whatever you want.
  • Does it have to be about the Nakba precisely ?
No, you can talk about the history of the Palestinian plight, current internal and external affairs, or outlooks for possible future resolutions to this conflict and how do you think can we achieve and maintain peace.
  • Does it have to be a political article ?
No, you are free to talk about any aspect of the Palestinian life inside and outside Palestine. You are free to talk about whatever you want.

I would appreciate it if you could help me spread the word about this event. For your convenience, i have created some simple counters and banners for this event. You can find their code below:

Thank you in advance for your help and support.

The best idea ever! I think everyone who committed to writing should write about Israelis terrorism, Apartheid, massacres and ethnic cleansing that has been admitted to by the founders of this little country of terrorists. The new attacks on Arabs or Muslims (and believe me, Arab Christians are not considered Christians in the eyes of the blind Christian Zionist groups here in the US) have produced such “new” names as “Jihadist” against anyone who supports the Palestinian cause. Likewise, a new word that a friend introduced on Wordpress is NaZionist! This is what we should use against these thugs.

I hope you can also create a counter about Israeli terrorism and the number of civilians killed..

Nex Year in Jerusalem!

Best wishes!

something I left on Loolt’s blog

Israel is actually holding a 3 day celebration in Jerusalem as well

This is from an event description on Facebook:

To celebrate 60 years of independence, israel is planning a large-scale birthday bash with events taking place in many different countries around the world. In Jerusalem, a 3-day conference, under the title “Facing Tomorrow” is planned from May 13 – 15, to which many world leaders and celebrities have been invited and plan to attend.

To let the world know and those gathered to celebrate israel see and hear us - on May 15 - 21,915 (365 days x 60 years) black balloons will launch over the skies of Jerusalem. We aim to turn the skies over israel’s celebrations black to let people know that there is another side of the story, a side of heartache, suffering and dispossession. At the same time, each balloon will carry a letter from a Palestinian child expressing his/her hope for the future.

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=11892661164
——

So if you have any little sisters, brothers, kids, nieces, nephews, cousins please ask them to take the time out to write a letter, which you can post on the Event’s wall - in their name.

Assalamu ‘alaykum

I came across this post via the Facebook events page. I am one of the editors of Ijtema.net, a group blog set up to highlight the best of the Muslim blogosphere. I’d like to help promote this event, insha’Allah. I was thinking of posting a selection of the best, most moving entries on our site, on May 15th or 16th (as soon as we can harvest the links to read through them). Would you be able to help me coordinate this task? I am not sure who is in charge of the Facebook event, otherwise I was going to ask them to message all the members closer to the day, and ask them to forward us the links to their blog posts.

Anyway, please contact me to discuss the idea, asap.

Salaams

Republic, which has declared its own independence. Large parts of the country is occupied by Israel, and final status of Palestine is not settled. Palestine is recognized by about 100 nations, but not by most Western powers, nor the United Nations.Day of independence: November 15, 1988.CLIMATE AND GEOGRAPHY

Palestine is one of the smallest countries in the Middle East, and most of its territory remains under Israeli occupation and control. Important areas are also used by Jewish extremist settlers claiming that this land has been given to them by God.
Effectively, the Palestinians today control less than 1,000 km². Both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip is a mixture of fertile ground and desert, with little rain in many zones, and sufficient rain in other zones. Many areas rely upon water coming from the mountains.
The economy of the country is heavily depending on Israel’s, as many goods have to be exported to Israel, and as many Palestinians work in Israel. Economic conditions are hard, and worst in the Gaza Strip.
Palestine has a new and fresh democracy that is working on the surface (in terms of free elections) but which is dominated by heavy corruption and a ruthless police and intelligence. It is also the victim of the decisions of certain organizations like Hamas, and foreign governments like the US and the Israeli.

uma,

You can believe that there’s neverneverland or Oz and that won’t make it so.

Mafish Falastin.

There is ONLY Israel.

Get used to it.

And no, the Bible does NOT mention a place called “Palestine”. It does mention the land of Israel though- and mentions that it only belongs to the nation of Israel:

“And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. But to the sons of the concubines that Abraham had, he gave gifts and sent them away from his son while he yet lived, eastward, to the east country.” (Genesis 25:5-6)

Genesis 12:7 And the L-rd appeared unto Abram, and said: ‘Unto thy seed will I give this land’…

Genesis 26:4 and I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these lands…

Genesis 28:13 And, behold, the L-rd stood beside him, and said: ‘I am the L-rd, the G-d of Abraham thy father, and the G-d of Isaac. The land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

And so on and so on….

La blocosfera commemora avui el Dia de Palestina | Zaragozame.com

On May 15, 2008 | 7:01 am

I’m a friend of Palestine in England. In thinking what we can do to support Palestine, we often focus on the negative - what we can say or do against Israel and its supporters. However, I’m convinced we need to devote our energies instead to positive things, on things that will make life better for Palestine. I also think we cannot wait for the world to come to the aid of Palestine. To my mind, the best way to mark this sad anniversary would be for Palestinians and their friends to put aside any differences and unite in the common cause of creating a great home for future generations.

israel is in danger. 60 years and we are still more strong in our pursuit of our National rights. israel is scared. They have pressured so many head of states to attend their so called independence? Independence from whom? The Palestinians never fought the Jews. The Europeans who kicked the Jews out. In return the ZIONIST Jews , through criminal ways, ethnic cleansed the Palestinians.
Yes israel is running scared. Why do you think they are building walls? Why they are to this day SEEKING recognition of the occupied?
Remember the Palestinians are the Key holders of PEACE. We will say it out loud: WE’LL NEVER FORGET.

MAFISH FALASTIN, listen buddy, the only lie is your freaking made up holocaust. To think the Jewish population in the 40’s was only 17 million and supposedly Hitler killed 6 million which leaves 11 million and today you guys are only 14.5 million, how the hell is that possible?? You guys have only added 3 million peole in 60 years??

See the lie??

Also, for a nation(Isreal) that claims all the horrors Germany did, you guys are sure experts in inflicting those same horrors on the Palestinian people. Makes me wonder if it wasn’t the jews magination that created all that so called “holocaust” because you sure have mastered the Nazi techniques.

The whole holocaust was a sham for the World to support the attack and invasion of Germany(kinda like the fake stories to attack Iraq, rings a bell??) And you guys are still sucking money for a lie you created 60 years ago, shame on you and your people.

So why don’t you crawl back into the gutter you crawled out of .

How about starting the return of Palestinians, by starting voter registration of refugees/diaspora, linking registration to their ancestral villages/towns? Also asking Palestinian politicans for a date when they will start voter registration? 2 million+ voters. Maybe Palestinian journalists could ask politicians when they will start voter registration. It’s positive, pro-democracy and self-help. The West Bank and gaza registration was done over 10 weeks on the ’90s - time for ‘All-Palesrinian’ elections?

I’d like to invite every Palestinian to put down your arms, and invest in building schools, hospitals, research institutions, agricultural institutions and other aspect of infrastructure that can benefit your people, rather than investing in hate and destruction. The Arab world was once so well known for mastery in science and astronomy. Give a new legacy to your children - educate them to create peace in the world.

Shalom, Salaam, Peace.

Suzie: Thanks for the suggestion. However, your statement implies that all Palestinians are engaged in armed fighting. The reality is that only the minority of Palestinians are armed, and of those, the minority is fighting the Israelis. You are making the invalid assumption that all Palestinians are armed and dangerous. Please take a closer look and see how it really is.

You are saying that we should invest in building schools, hospitals, infrastructure ..etc. Believe me, we all want to, and have done that given what we can. But i am not sure if you know this, the Palestinian economy has been crippled due to the Israeli restrictions on movement, on transporting goods, on importing material and equipment, and many other things. Israel’s actions during the past few years have destroyed the Palestinian infrastructure, and their blockade is slowing down the recovery.

You implied that the Palestinians are investing their money in “hate and destruction”. I beg you to show me a proof. Isreali’s and Americans have been claiming that the “Palestinian textbooks preach hatred”. I was educated on these textbooks, so i experienced them first hand, and i know that these claims are nothing short of mythical. Not only that, but there was also an independent European investigation team that studied these textbooks and debunked that myth. Plus, no propaganda, or textbooks could ever be more powerful than what people see with their own eyes. The Israeli aggression is just too big to go unnoticed in those lands. So the notion that Palestinians are “investing in hate and destruction” is just absurd.

Suzie, i understand that in your comment you probably only meant to ask for peace. I understand. This is also what i am calling for. This is what many Palestinians are calling for. However, we are the weak side here, and if peace were to be brokered in the middle east, the international community has to be involved. I, and all the other contributors, are just voicing the concerns of the Palestinian people.

Finally, i encourage you to investigate a bit more about the balance of power in the region, and what is actually taking place on the ground. The claim that Palestinians are mostly armed and are investing in hate and destruction is just flat out not true.

Dear President Obama
I enjoyed the Drama
Of your campaign and your fight
And your movement and flight
I really admired you
And your entire crew
For opposing the big war
And also rule of terror
I loved your words of wisdom
On your pathway to become
The president of USA
On this moment and this day
Unlike Candoleezza Rice
You sounded lovely and nice
I enjoyed your speeches
In big halls and big churches
Your speech on Dr King
Was very fascinating
I loved the passage you chose
And the way you did compose
The words from the scripture
In your wonderful lecture
You talked about the big wall
Which was so steep and tall
A wall that stopped all kinds
Unite in their hearts and minds
How the chorus and echo
Destroyed wall of Jericho
How the people’s unity
Destroyed evil and vanity
You talked about deficit
And you were explicit
Deficits of different sorts
In groups and in cohorts
You talked about empathy
The kindness and sympathy
You talked about civil right
And Dr King’s clean fight
Of his methods and his team
And his fantastic dream
Of his great compassion
And his love and his passion
How he forgave his jailers
And those dreadful rulers
How he pardoned all of those
Evils who used fire hose
Of the madness of segregation
And the chains of discrimination
Of people being in exile
In their own land and their isle
That the blacks and the whites
Both should have equal rights
That both the Jew and gentile
Should have the same lifestyle
The words you were firing
Were very inspiring
In your victory speech
You told everyone and each
No one can now argue
That his dream came true
You said those who support peace
You will certainly please
And those who tear the world down
They will face the crackdown
Where are you I can’t see?
There is a catastrophe.
Please come out of your shell
Gaza has turned into hell
It is worse than Montgomery
They are deprived and hungry
Innocent kids are slaughtered
Hundreds are killed and injured
Put an end to this nonsense
Please stop this offense
If in US and Germany
People can live in harmony
If in London and Paris
Jews and Muslims live in peace
So can a Jew in Jerusalem
Leave in peace with a Muslim
Please listen to Khatib
Who donated heart and rib
Of their child who was murdered
By a military coward
To children in Israel
For hope of peace and good will
Father said in this fashion
I want peace for everyone
There are millions on both sides
On either sides of divides
Who would like to coexist
And they would like to assist
Did you know that little boy?
Was playing with his toy
What sort of a self defence
Is this dreadful offence
These are the words of George Bush
To justify the ambush
The victims of 2nd World War
Don’t want to see this horror
The descent Jews and Muslims
Are sufferers and victims
My dear Muslim brothers
And also my good sisters
In their prayers every day
In a kind and caring way
Call a compassionate god
And the most passionate god
A god that is merciful
Lovely and beautiful
When they talk about Jihad
It means working very hard
So to become passionate
And the most compassionate
In the twenty first century
Guns and bombs are history
Just like King and Mandela
They believe in kind Allah
And will appeal to public
In every world republic
This is not the people’s war
We don’t believe in terror
The war is for super rich
Who target and aim to reach
Many thousand billions
That is many trillions
The Muslim kings and rich Jews
Do their utmost to abuse
The faith and the religion
In every and each region
They build and sell the rockets
But we go out of pockets
They use “Christian” Bush
To sell for them and to push
The big wall in Palestine
I don’t know how to define
Like that passage in Bible
Physically divides people
Come on “Dr Luther King”
Sound your horn so we can sing
Please please ring the bell
So we can march and sing well
And hope like Jericho wall
Will crumble and will fall
Unity is what we need
Please turn your words to deed
Make up your mind and decide
If you are on our side
Please stop this at once
And stop this nuisance

“Daily i’m following what’s going in Palestine, Gaza. I’ve done some research about the recent history and borders of Palestine. It’s totally unfair of Jewish people that they had no land and stealing the land of Palestinians by kicking them out of their own country. Even though Israel broke the international law by using forbidden weapons and denying what they had done. They don’t have enough braveness to confess. So what you can expect from the people that says lie and trying not to be guilty convict “white and clean”, by calling Hamas as a terrorist. Hamas is not terrorist they’re fighting for their land, for their freedom, safe life in their home and not to be isolated by the Israely. Even if we consider Hamas as a terrorsit they did killed 13 israeli by protecting themself, but they are not. What about Israel??? 1200 civilians killed in this past 3 weeks. And about the recovery it’s quite tough. rather to think about recovery, it needs to think about safety of people. thank you”

A Manifesto of Death for Israel and The Palestinian People
Obama?s Two State Israel Solution

Irrespective of the fact that not less than three past US Presidents have been unable to forge a two state solution for Palestine, not to mention the absence of any existing democratic two state nation in the world, - President Barrack Obama proclaimed support for a two state solution as the answer for the Palestine impasse. For the Palestinians a two state solution can only mean continuation of the Israeli apartheid system. Currently Palestinians are depended upon Israel for its natural resources, e.g., water, electrical power, natural gas and labor. Under this current situation a two state solution at best would mirror the system of US Indian reservations, South African Bantustans under the old apartheid government or black ghettos in the United States that are wholly dependent on the outside communities surrounding them. In the United States, there were instances when prominent politicians and the likes of the Nation of Islam once advocated for a two state solution as the answer for social problems dealing with race.

In the 1800s some politicians entertained the idea for establishing states for manumitted Negroes and Native Americans. Ultimately, the two state solution scheme gave way to Indian reservations, notions of Negro re-colonization and racial segregation. Not even Mormons were successful in their bid for their own state. Yet, without any actual evidence of success anywhere in the world that Obama can to point to, he nonetheless advocates the two state solution as the answer for the Palestinians. Even if you consider the remote possibility that one-day the Palestinian people through the support of other nations and the possession of technology were to equal Israel in economic and military strength, a two state solution would unquestionable lead to War, as one nation will attempt to oust the other. Given the history of hostility between Israel, Palestine and their Arab neighbors a two state solution would have to mean that Palestine remains subjugated and depended upon Israel. Thus, for Hamas and Hezbollah a two state solution really means business as usual. It is no less than a Muslim call for Jihad in the form of rockets and suicide bombings directed at Israel. But paramount in importance and similar in many ways to 16th and 17th century Europeans, Native Americans, African Americans, South Africans and Central Americans - the Palestinian people do have the absolute right to confront their oppressors even if it means certain death for the masses of the oppressed. In the United States, Native Americans had every right to confront persistent European settler intrusion and encroachment on their sacred Indian tribal lands, even when it meant the death of entire tribes of Indians. Africans in Africa maintained the right to challenge their European colonizers whom for decades and centuries socially and economically subjugated the indigenous peoples and expropriated their ancestral lands.

Communist, Socialist or any other term Westerners wish to apply to the ANC does not dispossess black South Africans of the right to confront Apartheid politically or violently if necessary. In either scenario, Black South Africans like any other oppressed peoples have the right to use all resources available to them in order to shatter and destroy Apartheid as social policy. Ho Chi Minh understood the Herculean task in extracting foreign imperialist who possessed massive military power and were Hell bent on colonizing his people. It meant that the Japanese, French and American colonizers would have to kill every Vietnamese while sustaining extended and prolonged losses of their own. No amount of American bombs, napalm, chemical warfare or foreign military would deter him. Today, Vietnam is at least free of its foreign invaders. Vietnam is undeniable evidence that in modern times no social change comes without the shedding of blood. All of this is no less true for Palestinians for whom the corporal paddle of Israeli subjugation, oppression and land expropriation has punished them since the founding of the Israeli State in 1948.

President Obama is the supreme example of a truly free and democratic society that has incorporated all of its people, even those of a different hue who in earlier times were despised and viewed as the infamous other whom for decades lived at the very peripheral of society in the most degraded conditions with no hope for inclusion. President Barrack Obama without question or doubt represents the inclusion of millions for whom historically remained at the hopeless margins of society. Today, in a nation where 85% of its inhabitants don?t resemble the head of state, a minority is the Commander in Chief. For this to have happened in a nation that for 400 years participated in slavery required the unrelenting and sustained rebellion of the oppressed black peoples until social policy in every societal institution that detrimentally affected African Americans was changed. Although it took four centuries of untold sacrifice for this change to happen, it nonetheless stands as the prerequisite for social change not only in the United States but around the world as well and Israel in particular. It may require four centuries of struggle before the Palestinian people receive social equality under a true democratic system of justice. What is certain however is that to capitulate to the Israelis and quit their struggle spells absolute doom for the Palestinian people.

For Hamas and Hezbollah, the lessons of struggle and rebellion have already be written in other places like Cuba, Central America and South America - places where the imperialist hand continues to land grab while socially, economically and politically subjugating and oppressing the people leaving only death by uprising as their only alternative. Herein rest the predicament of the Palestinian people. Anyone who believes that the oppressed should simply accept their lot and wait for change is clearly on the wrong side of history. Palestinians like all other social, economic and politically exploited peoples have the God given right to defy their oppressors even if it means death for themselves and those who oppress them. Hence, Israel has two logical choices, either the government of Israel begin the long road towards true democracy by amalgamating Gaza and the West Bank into Israel proper granting all citizens Arab or otherwise that reside in and are born within Israel?s border the same rights as all Israelis, - or continue down their current murderous path and an existence of uneasy peace for decades to come.
